Abstract:

Data scientist has often been named as the “sexiest job of the 21st century” or the “best job of the year”. Despite the fantasy around it as a job, the role of a data scientist is an ongoing topic of debate in both industry and academia. Based on the presenter’s past experience as a data scientist at Samsung Electronics Headquarters in South Korea, he will introduce actually what is being done by a data scientist in one of the largest global companies in the world, and share valuable lessons he learned there. He will then discuss what academia expects from a data scientist. Particularly, he will focus on the importance of training “citizen data scientists”.
