National Graduate and Professional Student Appreciation week celebrates the 5,000 plus graduate students that make the University of Iowa a great place for research and learning. Originally started in 1993 by the National Association of Graduate-Professional Students(link is external) as a way to show appreciation for the contributions, impact, and value of graduate students nationally and supporting their wellness and professional development.

This year, the Graduate College has joined with the Graduate Student Senate and the Graduate and Professional Student Government to host a week-long celebration of our graduate students. Starting April 2nd you can expect a week full of events promoting wellness, resource, and skill-based workshops, and social events (see the full list below).

Intergroup Dialogue Training

Learn this sought-after method for facilitating conversation across social, cultural, and power differences. Trainers Cate Denial(link is external) (Professor of American History, and Director of the Bright Institute at Knox College) and Gabrielle Raley(link is external) (Associate Professor of Anthropology-Sociology, Knox College) will teach you how to use Intergroup Dialogue in your classroom to promote conversation around controversial issues and how to generate a collective vision with your students. Participation in this training requires attendance for the whole session; certification from the Center for the Integration of Teaching Research and Learning (CIRTL) will be offered for three credits.
