How did you hear about the internship?
I heard about Allianz through a company presentation. My sophomore year, they sent a couple of people to the university to talk about the company and their internship. What stuck out to me about the presentation was how much fun the pair seemed like they had giving it. To this day, it’s still the most memorable company presentation I’ve ever seen.
Why did you choose this particular internship?
Working at Allianz Life gives a lot of benefits that other companies can’t offer. One nice thing is the location. We’re located about four or five miles from downtown Minneapolis, which is close enough to get the benefits of the big city without the drawbacks. My rent is affordable and my commute is walkable!
Within the company, there’s a lot to shout out, such as the culture and the exam support. One specific thing that comes to mind is the Allianz Sports event, an Olympic-like competition that Allianz puts on where athletes from the different branches of the worldwide company compete against each other. I’m looking to qualify to represent the United States in the half-marathon, and if I make the team I’ll get to run at the main event in Paris.
Why should Iowa students consider participating in this internship?
The internship was an incredible experience for me! All of the actuarial interns stayed in a hotel about a five-minute walk from Allianz, which really built a sense of community among us. By the end of the summer, we’d went from being strangers to close friends.
During my internship, the interns took trips to go cliff jumping at a quarry and hiking near Duluth. The community was made even stronger through the intern activities Allianz organized. Through Allianz, we went to a baseball game, a yacht cruise, a play, and more, which were all a blast.
